Apartment moving

Apartment moving in Tbilisi, from one rental flat to the next

Apartment moving with DAVITIANI means a crew and a vehicle that carry your furniture and boxes from one Tbilisi flat to another, planned around stairs, lifts and street parking at both buildings. We price the job from your list and photos, taking floors and access into account. Message us in English by phone, text or WhatsApp to book a date.

  • Planned around old lifts and stairwells
  • Parking checked for narrow streets
  • Help with the handover timing
  • Coordination by text or WhatsApp in English
Know your building

Why the building matters more than the distance

Most rental moves in Tbilisi cover only a few kilometers. What decides how long they take is the building at each end.

In a Soviet-era block the lift may fit one person and a suitcase, may be out of order, or may not exist at all above a certain floor. In that case everything goes by the stairs, and a fifth-floor walk-up takes noticeably longer than a new-build with a large lift. Telling us this in advance keeps the quote honest.

Blocks in Saburtalo, Gldani or Isani often have narrow lifts and tight landings with a sharp turn between flights. A long sofa or a tall fridge may simply not go in the lift, so the crew plans to carry those down by hand. Take a photo inside the lift with the door open and one of the landing, and we can judge quickly.

Newer complexes usually have bigger lifts, but they also have an administrator who may ask for notice, restrict move times or require the lift walls to be covered. Ask the building office what they need, ideally a few days before.

In Sololaki, Vera and the old town you may find wooden staircases, courtyards reached through an arch, and balconies that open onto the street. These buildings are charming and awkward in equal measure. Very large items sometimes go out through the balcony with our external furniture lift instead of down the stairs.

The street

Parking the truck on narrow streets

In Vera and Sololaki the streets are steep, parked on both sides and sometimes one-way. The truck may have to stop at the nearest corner rather than at your door. That is manageable, but it adds carrying distance, and the crew needs to know about it to plan the time.

  • Look at where a vehicle could pull in near each entrance and send us a quick photo of the street.
  • If a neighbor usually parks in front of the door, it can help to ask them politely the day before.
  • Mention whether the entrance is on the main street or through a courtyard.
  • Tell us about steps at the building entrance, even two or three of them.

In Vake and Saburtalo the streets are wider, but yards between blocks are often gated or full of parked cars. Our coordinator will ask about this when you send the addresses.

Boxes

Packing and labelling so unpacking is quick

Whether you pack yourself or ask the crew to do it, a simple labelling system saves an evening of searching.

  1. 1

Label by room, not by content

Write the destination room on the top and on one side of each box: kitchen, bedroom, bathroom. The crew can then place boxes in the right room without asking.

  2. 2

    Number the boxes

A running number plus a short list on your phone lets you check that everything arrived.

  3. 3

    Keep heavy things small

Books and kitchenware go in small boxes. Bedding and clothes go in large ones. An overloaded large box is the one that splits on the stairs.

  4. 4

    Mark the fragile boxes

Write FRAGILE in large letters and show those boxes to the crew at the start.

Even if you book packing, it is wise to handle personal things on your own: documents, medicines, jewelry, chargers, anything sentimental and anything you would not want a stranger to sort through. Clothes can often travel in suitcases, which also frees up boxes.

Fragile and electronics

Fragile items, screens and electronics

Glass tabletops, mirrors, framed pictures and TV screens need extra wrapping and should stand upright in the truck rather than lie flat under something heavy. If you still have the original box for a television or monitor, use it.

Computers and laptops

Back up your data before the move and carry laptops yourself. Desktop towers travel better with cables removed and bagged together.

Washing machine

It should be disconnected from water and drain before the crew arrives. If the old hoses are stuck or corroded, our tap and fitting repair team can help.

Fridge and freezer

Empty and defrost them the day before. Keep the doors slightly open while drying to prevent smells.

Water heater

In Georgia a "boiler" usually means an electric water heater. If it belongs to you and must be removed, arrange a technician first. See our water heater page.

Plants

Large potted plants are awkward but movable. Water them a day or two earlier so the pots are lighter.

Lamps and chandeliers

Anything wired into the ceiling should be taken down by an electrician, not the moving crew. Our electrician page (in Georgian) is at electrician.

Arrival

The first-night box

By the evening of moving day you will be tired, surrounded by boxes and possibly without internet. Pack one clearly marked box or bag that travels with you, not in the truck.

  • Toilet paper, soap, a towel and basic toiletries
  • Bedsheets and a pillow for the first night
  • Phone chargers, a power strip and a small torch
  • A kettle, a couple of mugs, coffee or tea and some snacks
  • Scissors or a box cutter, and a few bin bags
  • Any medicines you take daily

Ask the new landlord in advance to confirm that electricity, water and gas are connected, and photograph the meters when you arrive. That reading will matter when bills are split later.

Landlords

Handing back the old flat on moving day

In Tbilisi the deposit conversation often happens on the same day as the move. A bit of planning protects it.

Who pays for what, including repairs and final bills, is something you agree with your landlord. It is worth taking dated photos of every room once the furniture is out, especially of walls, floors and any existing damage you reported when you moved in.

If the landlord wants the keys at a set hour, tell us when booking. We can schedule the crew early so the flat is empty in good time. Many tenants then book move-out cleaning for the same afternoon, so the landlord sees a clean, empty apartment.

Rentals in Tbilisi are usually furnished. Walk through the flat with the crew at the start and point out which pieces are yours. Stickers or tape on your own items make this even clearer.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How long does a typical flat move take?

It depends mostly on floors, lifts and how far the truck can park from each entrance. With your photos and list we can give you a realistic estimate before the day.

Can you move me on the weekend?

Yes. We work Monday to Saturday 09:00-23:00 and Sunday 08:00-22:00. Weekends book up quickly around the end of the month.

The new building has no lift. Is that a problem?

No, it just means everything is carried by the stairs, which we plan for in the time and the crew size. Tell us the floor so the quote reflects it.

Will you move the landlord's furniture if I ask?

Only with the landlord's agreement. It is their property, so please confirm with them in writing before the move.

Should I be present during the move?

Yes, or send someone you trust. Someone needs to confirm what goes, open both flats and show where items should be placed.

Can you store my things for a few days between leases?

We do not advertise storage. If your leases do not line up, tell us the dates and we will discuss what is possible.

What if something does not fit through the door of the new flat?

The crew may take it apart if it is designed for that, or we can look at lifting it through a window. Send a photo and the door width in advance if you are unsure.
