Understanding the quote

Moving cost in Tbilisi: the factors behind every quote

The moving cost for a Tbilisi move is not a fixed rate per kilometer. It is built from the volume of your belongings, the floors and lifts at both buildings, how far the truck parks from the door, the route, and any packing, assembly or crane work. We quote after you send a list and photos. Ask for a price in English by phone, text or WhatsApp.

  • No fixed tariff, every quote is built from your details
  • Photos and a list replace most site visits
  • Extras named in the quote, not added later
  • Questions answered in English
Why no price list

Why we do not publish a single price

Two moves across the same distance can differ enormously in effort. A flat rate would be unfair to one of them.

A one-bedroom flat on the ground floor in Dighomi with parking at the door is a short job. The same furniture from a fifth-floor walk-up on a steep Sololaki lane, where the truck waits at the corner, takes much longer and needs more people. That is why the quote comes after we understand your specific move.

What we can do is explain every factor openly, so you know what you are paying for and can influence some of it yourself. The sections below go through them one by one.

Cost drivers

The main factors that drive the price

What moves the price up or down
FactorWhy it mattersWhat you can do
VolumeDecides the vehicle size, the number of trips and the crewSell or give away what you will not use before the move
Floors and liftStairs take far longer than a working lift of decent sizePhotograph the lift and confirm it will be running
Distance to the truckEvery extra meter is walked many times with heavy loadsFind the closest spot where a vehicle can stop
RouteTraffic, one-way streets and distance between addresses add timeChoose a time outside peak traffic if you can
PackingWrapping and boxing loose items is labor-intensivePack books, clothes and kitchenware yourself
DisassemblyTaking furniture apart and rebuilding it adds hoursDismantle simple pieces in advance if you know how
Special itemsPianos, safes, stone tabletops need extra people or careMention them in your first message

Volume usually has the biggest effect, and it is also the easiest one to misjudge. People new to Tbilisi often arrive with two suitcases and, a year later, own a desk, a bike, kitchen gear and a balcony full of plants. A rental that came furnished leaves you with fewer large pieces, but boxes add up quickly. When in doubt, count generously; a slightly bigger vehicle costs less than a second trip across the city.

Access in detail

Floors, lifts and the walk to the truck

Access is the factor people most often underestimate. Carrying a wardrobe down three flights is fine once. Carrying forty boxes, a bed, a fridge and a sofa down the same stairs is the core of the working day.

Many Soviet-era blocks have lifts that are tiny, paid for with coins or a card, or simply broken. A lift that works but only fits two boxes at a time helps less than you might think. Tell us honestly what it is like, and send a photo of its interior.

In central districts such as Vera and Mtatsminda, the vehicle may have to stop down the street. In newer complexes the loading point may be around the back of the building or in an underground garage. Each case is fine, it just needs to be known before the quote.

People describe their current flat in detail and forget the new one. A ground-floor exit followed by a seventh-floor entrance without a lift is still a seventh-floor job.

Services on top

Packing, assembly, special items and the crane

Packing

If the crew packs for you, the quote includes their time and, if agreed, the material. Packing yourself is the easiest way to keep the price down.

Disassembly and assembly

Priced by the pieces involved. A modern flat-pack wardrobe and an old solid one differ a lot in effort.

Special items

Heavy or fragile pieces may need more people, straps or extra protection. They are named separately in the quote.

External lift

When it is required, it is quoted as its own line after we check the site. Details are on the furniture lift page.

Cleaning afterwards

Not a moving cost as such, but worth budgeting for. See move-out cleaning for the old flat.

Removal of old items

Pieces you are throwing away are a separate job. See our waste removal page (in Georgian) at waste removal.

Getting a quote

How to get a quote that matches reality

A remote quote is only as good as the information behind it. Five minutes with your phone camera makes a real difference.

  1. 1

    Walk through every room

Photograph each room from the doorway, including balconies, storage rooms and the space under the stairs if you use it.

  2. 2

    Open cupboards

A closed wardrobe hides how much is inside. One photo with the doors open tells us whether it holds five boxes or fifteen.

  3. 3

    Show the route

Photograph the flat door, the landing, the lift and the building entrance at both addresses.

  4. 4

    Show the street

One picture of the road outside each building lets us judge parking.

  5. 5

    List the extras

Write down what needs packing, dismantling or special care. Include anything that must not go in the truck.

Send it all by WhatsApp or email in English. If something is unclear, we ask before quoting rather than guess.

Comparing offers

Comparing quotes from different movers

If you ask several companies, make sure you compare the same thing. A low figure can hide a smaller crew, a vehicle that needs two trips, or extras that appear later.

  • Check that each quote is based on the same inventory and the same access details.
  • Ask what vehicle and how many people are included.
  • Confirm whether packing, assembly and the crane are in or out.
  • Ask what happens if the job takes longer than planned.
  • Get payment terms stated clearly before the day.
Avoiding surprises

Why prices change on the day and how to avoid it

Most price changes on moving day have the same cause: the job turned out different from what was described. A second storage room nobody mentioned, a lift that was switched off, a sofa that needed to be taken apart, or twenty more boxes than expected.

The fix is simple. Tell us about changes as soon as you know them, even the evening before, and we will adjust the plan or the price openly. On the day, the crew checks the list with you before loading, so any difference is discussed at the start rather than at the end.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can you give me a price by phone without photos?

We can give a rough idea, but a firm quote needs a list and photos. Otherwise the figure is only a guess.

Is the price per hour or for the whole job?

How the quote is structured is explained when we send it. Either way, it is based on the details you give us, so accurate information matters most.

Does moving on a weekend cost more?

Timing and urgency are among the factors we consider. Ask about both weekday and weekend options when you request a quote.

Do I pay extra for a building without a lift?

Stairs mean more time and effort, so floors without a lift are reflected in the price. That is why we ask about floors and lifts at both addresses.

How do I pay?

Payment terms are agreed when booking. Ask about them before the day so everyone is clear.

Can I lower the price by doing some work myself?

Yes. Packing boxes yourself, emptying furniture and getting rid of things you do not need all reduce the job.

Will I get the price in writing?

We confirm the quote by message, so you have the price and what it covers in writing before moving day.
